Prologue

"Painting is a beautiful method of expression, colours make beautiful writing possible. I am impressed by many European painters, but being an African, I inperprete their works in the mode of my culture.

I have made several tours through Europe and America and of course through Africa. Today I am of the opinion that painting should have no nationality. I do not consider myself as an African artist but as a human being.

Like writing and sculpturing, painting is an agent to express ones conceptions and determinations and emotions.

In my mind art is the creation or re-creation of human environment.

The cultural and asthetic function of the art of painting has for me spiritual importance. I strongly believe that this is of great value in a time of superficiality.

For this reason I orientate my search for creative expressions on my personal spiritual experiences. I take religious, mostly christian themes for my work. This I do not in the sense of proselytism but in an universial sense, as a message of the transcendental.

My sources of inspiration are my religious beliefs. Belonging to the African sphere of culture, I most likely can synthesize my christian and traditional visions by connecting the best of both."
